More Hawaii Photos

I'm very behind on everything. I haven't finished with my Hawaii photos and I participated in a photowalk in downtown Tucson and I've had another chance to shoot the little newborn again. I'm getting the kids ready to go back to school in two weeks and am melting in the 100+ weather.

Two more Hawaiian Days Left

Aloha! Two day left of our Hawaiian Vacation. I don't want to leave but we've had a nice time with wonderful memories so it's all good. This week we've gone back to the other side of the island and rode horses for several hours. We didn't tell Kinzi and she was especially thrilled with that surprise. Yesterday, we geocached a bit. Well we found one geocache. It was about a 3 - 4 mile hike overall. However, it took us by a bay where we saw a turtle (usually there is a lot more we are told) lounging on the beach. It was fun but we are exhausted by all the activity.

We are determined to watch the sunset every night by the ocean. This is one from two nights ago. I've haven't' really made silhouettes before so this is my first try. Not to bad....I like the effect.

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July everyone. We had a fun day. We hung out in the shopping area most of the day. We adopted rubber ducks for a rubber duck race (charity event for cerebral palsy). Our ducks didn't win anything. We bought our own fireworks and it took several hours for us to go through them all.  Nathan and Kinzi had a blast, especially Nathan. All in all it was a very good day.....here are some pics.

Aloha

Aloha everyone! We are about to end our 1st week of vacation in Hawaii! This photo is from a week ago. I've taken about 1200 photos (and yes, your going to see each and every one of them.....just kidding). I've got lots to upload but I find working from my computer at home much more convenient,  so a lot will be uploaded after we get home. I'll prepare a few more while I'm here.

This was the second Kinzi sand burying that day. On this one, Nathan dug a really deep hole where Mackinzi is actually sitting down. He then made the funny little body on top....Kinzi is not normally that lopsided (i.e. check out the legs).    It was pretty funny to watch him make it.

Kinzi and Nathan received the obligatory first day sunburn even after putting on sunscreen three times. In later pictures, that I'll post in a few days,  you'll see we didn't get sunscreen close to their eyes and they have sunburned raccoon eyes.

We visited the other side of the island for a few days and stayed in Volcano National Park. We took a helicopter ride.    As a part of the tour we landed and were able to walk on 8 month old lava....will post pictures later. We also hiked the lava fields in the dark to watch the lava flow into the ocean. We weren't able to get very close and none of our pictures turn out but it was still cool. The park had lava fields and rain forest....very cool.  We also hiked in the rain forest. Chuck's foot is holding up pretty good.

Once we got back, we spent more time on the beach.

We took a break from the sun today and saw the movie, Transformers. We enjoyed it!

We get to shoot our own fireworks on the 4th of July and Nathan can hardly wait.

I'll write more later!!!

He's Alive!!!! - Sneak Peek

Here's a sneak peek at the photos I took of Nathan last night. More to follow!!!!! Oh, and instead of fighting Scruffy in some of them, he just joined in.....

It seems like I justed posted

It seems like I just posted something but it's been over a month! Argh! Where is the timing going!!! Let's update you.

Nathan (although rarely seen in pictures) is doing quite well. He received an excellent check-up at the pediatric endocrinologist this past month. He had a great growth spurt in the last 4 months on the growth hormones. They are very happy with his level. They thought he was having a thyroid problem and took several blood tests but actually everything is okie dokie there as well. His big news is that he is now a contact lens wearer. I think he actually likes them a lot.
He's going to be the subject of some pictures I'm taking tomorrow so maybe.....just maybe....they'll get posted here.

Kinzi is spending every single day here with her best friend, Aricia, or over at her house. We just got her back for Father's Day today. They are having a blast and do not seem to get tired of each other. Kinzi bought a Robo Hamster and named him Bibbles. It's just really small. He drives Scruffy crazy....often times we find Scruffy in front of the cage just watching Bibbles. We call it Bibbles TV. Kinzi's friend, Arica, let her have a 3 story hamster condo today and now Kinzi sets it on the floor.....which really drives Scruffy crazy....we hear him whinning every once in a while at Bibbles.

Scruffy is doing real well on all his new meds. He hasn't had a seizure since starting the meds and that's fantastic!

Chuck has been going to physical therapy 3 times a week, working and playing golf. It still hurts, and so he has some questions about that.

I'm still very into my photography. Below are some photo shoots I've had recently.

This little guy is 14 days old.

Out of school for the summer

Latest scrapbook page! I did a tutorial from Vinnie Pearce....love her!

Credits: Vinnie Pearce walkthrough, Papers and Elements from Vinnie Pearce and Viva Artistry

Woohoo! The kids are out of school for the summer! They did fantastic on their last report cards. Kinzi made 90's club all 5 grading periods and Nathan did absolutely fantastic on all his comprehensive test and final grades! We are crazy proud of these kiddos!

Our current news is that Scruffy has been sick. He came down with some serious ear infections a week ago and had to have a bit of surgery. So he's had surgery for that and is on antibiotics. Scruffy has also had just about 1 seizure per month for the last six months. They felt it was time to put him on seizure medicine. The blood work also shows that his kidneys were having some problem and his calcium levels were crazy high. So now he is on a special kidney food diet. He now has an account at our regular pharmacy.

We went to the Gaslight theatre this weekend and saw Harley's Angels. It was quite good. We go to the theatre about 5 times a years with my best friend Diane and her family.

Chuck's foot is mending well. He's in physical therapy...thank goodness....maybe he'll have more function this time around.

Kinzi bought a mini hamster with her A money and he's adorable. She named him Bibbles.

Not much else going on...

You tube Video - Very good commencement speech

I just saw this video clip on another blog and thought I would post a link here. Ellen Degeneres gave this commencement speech at Tulane University. It's quite good!

Last week of school.....yeah!

Yeah! I'm on a new roll, at least two weeks in a row. First, my family is ecstatic because this is our last week of school!! They get out a 1:00 every day this week!

I thought I'd show you a picture of Chuck's Frankenstein Foot....bless his heart...it's just always going to look funny. The iphone photo was taken at the doctor's office moments after them taking off his cast. He has 30 staples in that foot. It was so swollen that you couldn't even see his ankle nubs. He's much happier now that the plaster cast is off and he is in a walking cast/boot. He will have physical therapy this time.

As I mentioned above this is the kids last week of school. Nathan finished his comprehensive exams on Thursday. Next year Kinzi will take comprehensives as well. Their last 6 days of school are just fun projects. Nathan signed up for an engineering project. Below he is making a bridge. The teacher gave them each 6 1-ft long sticks, a box of match sticks, nylon cord, glue gun, tape, mesh and sandpaper and told them to go build a bridge. This is the beginning of Nathan's bridge.

While 6 - 12th grade are taking comprehensive exams, the 5th graders went on a couple of field trips. They went to Colossal Cave and a ranch this day. Kinzi is sluicing for minerals.

This was at the ranch, I thought it was kind of funny.

A month and a half or so ago Mackinzi competed in Latin competition at the Uof A. She won the top award in her category. She recited a story....much like Romeo and Juliet....but in Latin. These are kids from our school.

Kinzi attended her 2nd Irish dancing competition this weekend. The competition is called a Feis (pronounced a feeeesh). The next two pictures are from today's competition. She won 1 5th place medal, 3 4th place medals and a 2nd place medal. She was thrilled. It is a huge competition. There are tons of girls competing. We didn't know how popular it was but we sure know now!

The last photos are from Mackinzi class feis two weeks ago. She won 3rd place twice and honorable mention once.

Darren runs the dance academy. It was the first time any of these girls competed in a feis.

Most of the dance academy where she attend class.....see if you can find her....look in the middle.
Big hint!

My mom asked me to start blogging again!

Well....I've gotta say I'm so happy with my mom....she asked me if I was going to keep blogging and that she missed it! Bless her heart! I wondered if anyone really read it or cared.....thanks Mom! I'll start blogging regularly again!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and grandmothers out there!

Let's catch up on what's happening shall we! As you might know Chuck had surgery on his foot again. This is the same one that he sliced open on sheet metal 3 years ago. The new orthopedic doctor repaired the foot some more and took out stitches the last surgeon left in. Yep, the last surgeon didn't use dis solvable stitches and they were still in there....very painful. We go back to the doctor tomorrow and he'll have the surgery cast taken off. We don't know what he'll do from there but we know this time he will get to experience physical rehab on his foot. I suspect he'll be in another cast for awhile.

I attend the second photography workshop in Utah a couple of weeks ago. I've learned alot and hope to put lots of things in practice. I'll post more pictures just as soon as I have to to take some and edit them.

Kinzi attend her first Irish Dancing competition last weekend. She won two 3rd place metals and one honorable mention. Her next competition is next weekend. She's really loving Irish Dancing.

While Kinzi dances, Chuck takes Nathan shooting at a shooting range (not while he's on crutches though) and they have fun shooting targets. I can't tell you what they shoot but they shoot a couple of things.

The kids have two more weeks of school. Nathan's comprehensives are Tues, Wed and Thurs and then their last week will be major "fun" projects. I'm so glad we've found this school. Both kids are so happy there and they are learning an enormous amount.

Since I read all the time I thought I'd start telling you about the books I've read. My book club recently finish a book by my favorite author, Jodi Picoult. It's called Handle With Care. It's a pretty sad book but it was very good. My favorite book by this author is being made into a movie called My Sisters Keeper. If you haven't read Jodi Picoult, I highly recommend her!

My book club is now reading Glass Castle: A memoir by Jeanette Walls. It had me hooked from the first chapter. I also, highly recommend this book. If you know of any really good books, I could use some recommendations.

Our favorite TV shows have wrapped up or are wrapping us this week for the season. We watch Heros, Lost, and The Biggest Loser.

OH, Oh,Oh, if you didn't see Star Trek this weekend, you've really missed out. It is EXCELLENT. My whole family loved it! We saw Wolverine last weekend and it was really good as well. My girl friends and I just saw Ghost of Girlsfriends Past and it was just ok. Star Trek hands down get our overall vote.

Garage Photo Shoot

I think I'm getting better at photography! I took these photos in my garage. I did several different techniques on the post processing. As soon as Nathan gets over his cold and doesn't look like he's sick, I'll be taking some of him as well.

More pictures

It's our last day of our 4 day March spring break. Nathan had a cavity filled today much to his chagrin but he survived. We've just had a lazy day, it's been kind of nice. Here are some new photos!

This photo was taken in the field beside my house and I added a texture to it!

Week 3 of my self-portraits. They are so hard. I missed a week so I'll have to catch up on one next week!

Spring Break

We are having our huge 4 day weekend spring break. The kids do not get a whole week in their new school, bummer. They will have a five day weekend in April.

Mackinzi had a slumber party with 4 of her friends. I had 5, screaming and screeching, 11 year olds for 24 hours. Holy cow....they fed off each other like crazy. Overall, they were very good. Wow, are they the silliest littles things when they feed off each other. Scruffy was exhausted by the time they left today. He fell asleep within two feet of the front door and didn't even make it to the carpet. He's slept all day. It made him nervous if he heard Kinzi screaming because he thought something was wrong with her so he constantly checked on her and barked at the girls. My brave little puppy! Nathan just kept asking if I was feeding the girls sugar because they were crazy!

Trip to Salt Lake

Boy, it's been a busy week. I went to Salt Lake for my first of two photography classes this past weekend. The women teaching the class is an up and coming portrait photographer in Utah. She was very good, I learned tons and had a good time. There was a very big change of climate. Check out the snow at her house. Burr!!!! But it was so pretty.

This is a portrait I did of Ingrid from the class. I thought it turned our rather well.

After getting back home with all my new found knowledge, I went and shot more pictures of ducks.

This is a cool gate that I drive by everyday on the way to the kids school. Look at the faces above the door.

The kids have a 4 day weekend this weekend. They are looking forward to that. Kinzi is planning on having five girls come over and spend the night.....should be fun!
